BFA – Bangladesh Film Archive

Bangladesh Film Archive is an important national institution for the preservation of film-centric history, heritage, and culture through the collection, preservation, and research of films and film-related materials. On May 17, 1978, the journey of the organization started under the name of ‘Film Institute and Archive’ under the Ministry of Information. It was named ‘Bangladesh Film Archive’ in 1984. Since its inception, the activities of the Bangladesh Film Archive were conducted in a rented house, it had no address of its own.

With the personal interest of the Honorable Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, a world-class, state-of-the-art, and spectacular film archive building has been constructed in Agargaon, Dhaka, at a cost of about Tk 86 crore. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the building on 27 February 2013 and inaugurated the newly constructed Bangladesh Film Archive Building on 01 November 2018.

Weekly film screenings *Collected movies full length, movie screening. Films in shorts, documentaries, documentaries, newsreels and digital formats are screened once a week. Also on special days/days free movies are shown for public.Service price and payment method:- free.Service delivery time:- 01 working days.

Special film screenings *Service delivery method: - Film students and researchers will have the opportunity to watch full-length, short-length, documentaries, documentaries, news films collected by Bangladesh Film Archive.Required Documents and Location: - Application to Director General.Service Charges and Mode of Payment: - Subject to payment at the following rates prescribed by the Governmenta. For exhibition of films in film format, rent shall be paid at the rate fixed by the government (Tk. 150/- per reel).b. 35m: For each film in film and digital format, rent shall be paid at the rate prescribed by the government (Tk. 1000/- per film).c. The fare for use of projection hall will be fixed as per government policy 2020 per shift.Service Delivery Time:- 1 working days

Non copyright Items supplied *Mode of Service: - Bangladesh Film Archive's collection of full length, short films, documentaries, documentaries and newsreels etc. in digital format is provided on CD, DVD, hard drive or pen drive. Required Documents and Location: - Application to Director General. Service Charges and Mode of Payment: - Subject to payment at the following rates prescribed by the Government - a. 1000/-(one thousand) taka up to 30 minutes, b. 30 minutes to 1 hour 2000/-(two thousand) taka. c. 5000/-(Five thousand) from 1 hour to 3 hours. Service Delivery Time: 03 working days

Delivery of copyrighted items *Mode of Service: - Bangladesh Film Archive's collection of full length, short films, documentaries, documentaries and newsreels etc. are provided on CD, DVD or Pen Drive in digital format subject to the permission of the copyright holder. Required Documents and Location: - Application to Director General. Service Charges and Mode of Payment: - Subject to payment at the following rates prescribed by the Government - a. 1000/- (one thousand) subject to payment up to 30 minutes. b. 2000/-(two thousand) subject to payment for 30 minutes to 1 hour. c. 5000/-(Five thousand) subject to payment from 1 hour to 3 hours. Service Delivery Time: 03 working days

Use and supply of posters and still images *Mode of service: - Scan copy or hard copy of various posters, photosets and stills etc. of preserved old films photo.bfa.gov.bd. Service Charges and Payment Method:- Service charge to be paid at government prescribed rates (Tk.300/- per copy of poster and Tk.100/- per copy of still image). Service Delivery Time: 03 working days.

Library membership *Service Delivery Procedure: - Library membership should be applied to the Director General. Every person/individual should become a member of the library by paying a fee (Tk. 200/-) at the rate prescribed by the government. No library material/books are borrowed from the library.

Award of research fellowship *Service Delivery Procedure:- Notification is issued for award of Research Fellowship. After scrutinizing the applications received as per the prescribed rules, the successful candidates are notified through e-mail, website, phone and post. Government fixed honorarium for each research.

Film Museum *Method of service delivery: - The Film Museum has been opened to the public with various parts and materials related to the film in the Bangladesh Film Archive. Time limit for service delivery:- 09.00 am-05.00 pm except on weekly and public holidays. You can submit your assessment or requirement through this application form also.

Film journals and other publications *Method of providing services:- One film journal and 5/6 books on related subjects are published from this institution named Bangladesh Film Archive Journal. Publication in the journal is subject to approval by the Editorial Board. Remuneration is paid at the rate fixed by the government. Send your articles to us. Remuneration is paid at the rate fixed by the government.

Film Appreciation Course or other similar training *Four and six months Film Appreciation Course, Short Course, Film Criticism, Discussion, Film Practice by Bangladesh Film Archive. Apply for your course.

Organization of Film Festivals/Film Exhibitions in Joint Organisation *Organizing film screenings in schools, colleges, universities, training institutes in various districts by various film societies and organizations in joint arrangement with Bangladesh Film Archive. Service Price and Payment Method:- Free. Period of service:- As per approved schedule of joint arrangement.

Collecting periodicals and publications related to films *The library of Bangladesh Film Archive collects periodicals and publications related to films from various book fairs, book stalls, various libraries, individuals and institutions.
