Bangladesh Film Archive is an important national institution for the preservation of film-centric history, heritage, and culture through the collection, preservation, and research of films and film-related materials. On May 17, 1978, the journey of the organization started under the name of ‘Film Institute and Archive’ under the Ministry of Information. It was named ‘Bangladesh Film Archive’ in 1984. Since its inception, the activities of the Bangladesh Film Archive were conducted in a rented house, it had no address of its own.

 

With the personal interest of the Honorable Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, a world-class, state-of-the-art, and spectacular film archive building has been constructed in Agargaon, Dhaka, at a cost of about Tk 86 crore. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the building on 27 February 2013 and inaugurated the newly constructed Bangladesh Film Archive Building on 01 November 2018.
